What spiritual hallelujah is hidden in your heart?
As a child, I received stars during Sunday School after reciting Scriptures from memory. Each day, every week, I would practice saying the words of a particular verse to my parents so I could present what I learned to my class on Sunday. And as long as I received a star, praising my accomplishments, the verses kept coming.
Practice. Present. Praise. Repeat.
As I grew, the stars no longer held as much motivational weight. And without the motivation of praise, my memorization waned. I had aged out of memorizing for the sake of memorizing.
Yet, according to Psalm 119:11 NIV, we need God’s word in our hearts so that we might not sin against Him. It reads, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
Hiding the truth of God in my heart is more than memorizing words. The act of hiding Truth involves heart preparation.
If you were to hide something in the ground, you’d need to determine where to dig the hole, how to dig the hole, and how deep to make it. Right?
It’s the same with hiding Scriptures.
What hiding location is best for you?
A reading spot to be alone with God?
A solitary nook where you can open up His word and not be disturbed?
What tool works best to prepare the soil of your heart?
A reading plan that suits your uniqueness?
A formal Bible study?
How deep do you want you go?
Ready to select a reading time?
Ready to select how long you want to be alone with Father?
Without heart preparation, there’s no hiding, no tucking away of truth. We simply glance over Father’s truth.
Glancing is like listening without application.
Without application, there’s no growth.
And oh, I can’t imagine life without God’s word growing in my heart.
Spiritual growth is my hallelujah —my praise.
I hold tight to James 1:22, “Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves, do what it says” (NIV), which tells us application results in growth.
Where do you go to hide Truth in your heart?
What tools do you use?
How deep do you like to go?
Let’s journey together.
Thank You, Father, for the Bible. Your words of truth from Genesis to Revelation activate my spiritual resolve. Lord Jesus, your way is the light unto my path. You are my strength. Holy Spirit, you guide me into a deeper relationship and I’m so grateful. Increase my obedience. Help me to rejoice in my spiritual hallelujah! To Your glory. Amen.
Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves; do what it says. James 1:22
May YHWH bless you, keep you, and guide you in all you do. Until next time, this is Linda Goldfarb, and I’m so glad we are on this journey together with Father.
