Do our efforts reflect the best we have to offer?
I recall the day one of my children came to me with a project they had worked on for school. I could tell the effort was half-hearted.
“Good job. Did you spend a lot of time working on it?”
“Not really. I did what the teacher asked, though.”
“Are you happy with your work?”
“I know I can make it better, but I did what the teacher asked, isn’t that good enough?”
“How we complete a project is always up to us sweetie. If you’re good with it, I’m good with it.”
Later that evening.
“Mom, I did my project over. What do you think.”
“Fantastic job! I can see how hard you worked on this one. How do you feel about your work?”
“It’s the best I could do, Momma. And I can’t wait to turn it in.”
(Insert a Momma’s smile and hug)
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
Colossians 3:23 ESV
Sometimes I don’t give it “all I’ve got.”
I become content to give what’s needed though it may not be my best. The result is “work” I’m not proud of. This thinking spills over into my spiritual life as well.
Without a true focus on God’s will, way, and timing, my heart can misguide me. In those moments, I strive for okay, not my best. How about you?
Let us, guard our hearts, from every angle for our heart is the hub from which our mind and soul reacts.
Ultimately we are known to God by our efforts—Doing our best when the world calls for mediocrity. Therefore, let us choose to make every effort to glorify God in all things.
Let’s journey together
Thank You, Father, for knowing my heart. Help me guard my heart from life’s deceptions. Create in me a desire to move beyond okay efforts into actions of excellence for Your sake. Praise You, O Lord. Hallelujah.
Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves; do what it says. James 1:22
May YHWH bless you, keep you, and guide you in all you do. Until next time, this is Linda Goldfarb, and I’m so glad we are on this journey together with Father.
