Would your home make a great forever family? Does the thought of fostering a child make you uneasy? Today’s guest helps us understand the power of fostering.
Welcome to Staying Real About Faith & Family. If you’re looking for a community where you can get real about life without resistance, you’re in the right place.
I’m Linda Goldfarb. Each week, Heather Greer and I and our guests offer personal insight to encourage transparent living from a biblical viewpoint with practical applications. Staying Real with the Holy Spirit’s leading is what we’re all about – we pray today’s episode blesses you.
Today’s guest is …Maggie Rowe. Maggie and her pastor-husband Mike raised foster children who arrived “half-baked” as pre-teens and the three kids they raised from scratch. She is a national speaker, dramatist, and author from western North Carolina. Maggie’s work includes decades in public relations, adult education, and ministry to women. Yet, she says the only credentials that matter are she loves Jesus, family, and people – and nothing beats encouraging others along the way.
Today Maggie joins our conversation as we discuss –How Fostering One Child Can Change the World.
We discuss in this episode:
- Some barriers that prevent children from being accepted into “forever families.”
- How do Christian families address this important need for children who “age out” of the system?
- The positive and challenging aspects of fostering a child and more.
Today’s Thought Consideration – Father, help me do for one what I wish I could do for many.
We value what you have to say, so please take a moment and leave a comment for Linda, Heather, and our guest below.

Thank you my friend Maggie for sharing your story about fostering. The need is still so great today even more than when I was in foster care and adopted.
Linda I’d love to share my story on your podcast. My book The Glider is recently published. There were 4 children in my original home, 2 were released for adoption 2 were left in foster care until aging out. Me and my little sister were adopted together at 3 and 5 and had a wonderful childhood. Our sister and brother were not released for adoption. We searched to find out how that could have happened. We then discovered horrors we endured at the hands of a broken system. It’s still happening. My goal is to make legislative changes to effectuate real change for the children. Hope to hear from you soon.
